Hey Mike, first off, can you introduce yourself?
Hello, my name’s Michael Gwynn. I am the COO for Shibusa Systems, a new home-builder here in New Orleans.

This is so exciting. Can you tell me a little about the project that’s unfolding here?
Sure! What you see here is the foundation for the first Shibusa Cottage. A quaint little two bedroom, two bath home that is going up here in the Lower Ninth Ward!

Amazing! So on the floor here I’m seeing a bit of a grid pattern. What’s happening and what is that all about?
Well, the Shibusa System is based on bays, and so we have bays that we can configure to fit to any site in New Orleans. So they can go wide or narrow and long — and what you see here is what we call a two by two. It’s two bays wide and two bays deep. But we can also go three bays wide, three bays deep, etc. to, again, to fit on any site and maximize the site for development.

Beautiful! What’s unique about this building process and what are the benefits?
Benefits really are speed, quality, and durability. We do not do conventional construction. We’ve developed a precision component on-site assembly which allows us to take some of the best practices across multiple disciplines and apply them from construction, prefabrication, off-site manufacturing and allows us to bring all the components here on site and put a house together extremely fast without having to sacrifice quality, or durability.

And what part of the process are you in right now and what steps are remaining to see the project through?
So part of our process: we call it FAST. So we go in four phases, we start with our Foundation, then we go with our Armature then we go with our Skin, then our Trim.
Foundation is what you see here, we’ve just completed that and we’re started to begin our armature phase, which we build it up the framing of the house, then we put the skin on, which is the shell and then we come in and do the trim, which is all the finish work for the home.

Fabulous! Well we look forward to seeing it develop! Thanks so much Mike!
Thank you!
