NEW ORLEANS, January, 31, 2021: Shibusa Systems debuted a home on 408 Delery Street in Holy Cross that sets the new building standard for combining innovative, practical design, elegant aesthetics, and sustainable practices. Vann Joines, Owner of JOIN Development, tapped the construction-tech startup to design and build the first commercial Shibusa cottage. As a one-stop solution for the landowner, Shibusa Systems efficiently managed the workflow from conception to completion incorporating its Precision Component Onsite Assembly® process, guaranteeing excellent quality in the finished product.

“My partners and I founded Shibusa Systems to increase the quality and efficiency of the residential labor force to in turn increase the quantity, affordability, and sustainability of housing, ” said Katy Reynolds, CEO and Co-Founder of Shibusa Systems. “If we really want to reduce the cost of homeownership, we need to build energy-efficient, practical, and resilient homes that are easy to maintain long-term. Shibusa’s elegant homes meet these requirements.”

”I was consistently impressed by the speed and quality in which the house came together with a small team of builders, and with very little waste on site. I could not believe a dumpster wasn’t required. The house is so attractive, it was sold before we were even finished building!” added Vann Joines, Owner of JOIN Development.

As the affordable housing crisis continues to escalate in America, Shibusa Systems offers a new promise for housing that can be built efficiently and economically, reducing construction costs and waste. The home at 408 Delery Street was built in approximately 16 weeks with its 6 full-time, in-house assembly team members. By the end of 2021, Shibusa believes its single-family homes can be completed in just 8 weeks.

Shibusa Systems’ strategic advantage comes from its patent-pending workflow system, precision components, and its patented assembly process. All parts are sourced from leading established materials suppliers with a focus on sustainability. Shibusa Systems’ homes are 100% electric and are made from low-carbon materials. Shibusa Systems uses structural insulated panels (SIPs) to create a superior building envelope, providing residents with more thermal comfort, healthier air quality, durable protection from natural disasters, and 40% lower energy bills.

Ariana Tipper and Carolyn Freeman, of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services pre-sold the stunning home to a local medical student from a long-time family in the neighborhood. As the new homeowner, Christian Davis, explained, “I had been saving for the perfect place to call my own, and after watching the Shibusa Cottage being constructed, I knew I couldn’t hesitate to put in an offer.  The house is beautiful inside and out, and I can tell from the quality workmanship, it was built to last and will be easy and cost-effective for me to maintain long-term. I am excited to see Shibusa grow, providing others like me with a great investment and perfect home.”

Shibusa Systems is proud to contribute this home to the Lower Ninth Ward, a neighborhood still in need of new housing after the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina over 15 years ago. Given the company’s scalable platform, Shibusa Systems is poised to bring its housing solution to communities in need throughout the country.
